Vitamin D
According to an article in Life Extension Magazine[1], a well respected source for new research, studies on Vitamin D show that when used in adequate amounts with Calcium, THE CANCER RISK DROPS 50 %.
Life Extension Foundation (LEF) has identified 89 studies that describe how greater Vitamin D levels reduce cancers of the breast, prostate, colon, esophagus, pancreas, ovary, rectum, bladder, kidney, lung and uterus as well as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Now a newer study published this year using 1000 IU of Vitamin D with calcium, was studied on 1,180 post menopausal women living in the Midwest. After only four years there was a 60% reduction in contracting all cancers, and, in looking at the last three years of the study, there was a 77% reduction in cancer.[2]
THIS IS NEARLY AN 80 % REDUCTION IN CANCER.
Now it might take 20 to 50, or even 100 years to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt to the medical authorities that doubling the RDA for Vitamin D will give us a reduction in cancer. I am not sure the RDA will ever be increased. I am not willing to wait! I have increased my consumption of Vitamin D to 1,000 IU.
Unlike some vitamins and nutrients, Vitamin D is almost dirt cheap, a 250 capsule bottle of premium grade Vitamin D retails for $12.50. This is nearly a years supply. This is going to cost you 5 cents per day - $1.50 a month - or about $13.00 dollars per year. It can’t hurt, and it might help prevent cancer, so why not increase your dose?
Additionally according to another LEF article[3], it seems that the increase in winter colds and flu might be caused by a reduction in sun light, which causes a reduction in the production of Vitamin D. Conversely adding supplemental Vitamin D seems to reduce the incidents of colds and flu.
